INFORMATION FOR JAVEA RESIDENTS

Citizen's Mailbox for Xàbia Residents

Xàbia is to set up a web based "Citizen's mailbox" so that residents can make their suggestions directly to the town hall. This is an initiative from the Valencia Conselleria de Solidaridad y Ciudadanía (Ministry of solidarity and citizenship). Technical staff from the Ministry will help the Town hall implement the idea. U3A JAVEA Christmas Charity

Dear Members of the U3A, the following is an article which I sent to various publications about the donation of Christmas presents and items for the Activities room at the Xabia Bella Home in Javea. Most of the money for these items came from the sale of raffle tickets at the November Parador meeting. The Centre's Director, Raul, was very grateful on behalf of the residents for all the gifts and for the interest and goodwill shown by the U3A for this little publicized home. The gifts will be distributed at Christmas to those who do not have any family to buy them something. Xabia al Dia magazine has published this article and put it on its website. [Click here to see the magazine's website.]

You may also be interested to know that the editor of Xabia al Dia, Guiomar, also pointed out to me that the old town trees have been decorated in the same manner this year as was done by a small group of UA volunteers last year. She feels we may have inspired some of the people in Javea!

With best wishes for your Christmas, in the knowledge that we have helped a few others to have a better Christmas. Elizabeth Collins.

"The Javea U3A has over 1,000 members, the majority of whom are retired foreigners, mostly English, who meet together to form learning groups in over 50 subjects. This year at their last monthly meeting at the Javea Parador, they decided to collect money by holding a raffle, in order to buy Christmas presents for 20 residents of the Xabia Bella home for mentally impaired adults. This small residential home is situated in the Old Town of Javea. The U3A were also able to buy art and craft materials and games for the residents. An article on the work of Xabia Bella was published in El Levante on 26th November 2009. The gifts were handed over to the Centre’s Director, Raúl Pastor Serra, by Shirley King, President, Paul Wessendorf, Vice President and Elizabeth Collins of the Javea U3A on 10th December."
