Now the weather has finally cheered up, it would be nice to my get boat back in the water, however I am no further forward in finding a suitable local place to launch.

Our latest member Paul Priest from Denia has joined the Denia Yacht Club to keep his recently acquired Wanderer dinghy. He does of course have to pay for the facility and it would be nice to have the same choice here in Javea. The beauty of having a small craft is to be able to access the water easily and go sailing quickly as the weather local permits. If it always has to be a totally pre-planned event it defeats the point of having a small craft. At my tender age I really do not want to have to drive any real distance only to find the weather turns bad and you and you have to abort and drive back home. I also no longer want the hassle of trailing, rigging/de rigging every time.

Javea, as I have said before is one of the best and safest bays I have ever come across in 48 years of sailing so it is such a pity that access is denied to small environmentally friendly sailing craft. If there is any one who can offer any information or suggestions of how we get over this problem I would be grateful to talk to them. The Javea Port slipway is still blocked by concrete blocks so it’s still “No sailing here please, We’re Spanish”.

If you have an interest in sailing, or any ideas on the above, please contact the group leader Gordon Edwards at the email address above. Watch the newsletter (button above) for announcements.
