Backgammon Group |
|
A thriving U3A Javea Backgammon Group meets every Monday afternoon (though not Jul/Aug or late Dec/early Jan) at An Shebeen Irish bar (upstairs and at the rear). We play from 15:00 to 17:00 in a relaxed environment, the venue is free provided each player buys at least one drink during the session. The standard of player ranges from experts to outright beginners – who are rapidly developing through regular play. It is basically ‘Ludo for Adults’ but the modern use of the doubling cube makes it as much a game of strategy as it is about the luck of the dice. Come along and see how much fun it can be. The U3A funded several boards and other U3A members have kindly donated two other sets – plus the Group members bring along their own sets – we pretty regularly have six games on a Monday – the venue has plenty of room for more! Unlike chess you can talk openly about your strategy and one form of the game – the chouette - allows multiple players to learn from each other while playing. You can also view and/or download three helpful files (click the name to see the file): The starting position for the board, initially a pretty difficult thing to remember. Notes One – that gives you some of the history, the etiquette and game play. Notes Two – don’t even think of reading this until you are comfortable with game play, it talks of probabilities and strategies you might adopt. If you want to join us contact the group leader at the email address above. Alternative contact information can be found in the Committee Members and Group Leaders List.
