Teaching English in Jávea
Appeal to U3A Members
CREAMA is the Jávea branch of the office that tries to help the unemployed in Jávea and particularly the younger people, and it now comes under the authority of Juan Luis Cardona.
They very much want to be able to give people the best chance possible to obain what work might be available. In the hotel industry waiters who can speak some English have an advantage, people who work in shops/supermarkets have an advantage and in many other trades such as gardening, pool work etc it helps to be able to converse a little with customers in English or another foreign language.
CREAMA is very short of money in Jávea – Juan Luis has no real budget to work with at present. They would like to offer some English language or conversation classes to unemployed people. They would provide the classrooms (probably in the library, Amas de Casa former house in Port, Adult education Institute) and any printing, materials that are required. They do not have a budget for teachers.
Juan Lu and Josette at CREAMA have asked the Foreign Office if we could help with some volunteers to give English classes, starting end September/October.
Hours and times to be agreed by volunteers. CREAMA would sort the "pupils" into skill levels in English.
Those who feel confident to teach the English language or some grammar would be most welcome, as would those who feel they could only manage conversation classes at different levels. If you would like to offer to teach a language other than English, we would also like to hear from you.
The unemployed attending the course/classes would receive a certificae at the end of the course to state that they had attended an English course, which they could combine with their CV.
Apart from English, other skills which they might usefully learn would also be welcome. Fort eg., the U3A Gardening Group might be able to help prospective gardeners with some "gardening terms", how to deal with/approach foreign clients, ideas on how best to market themselves etc.
If you feel you could help out with this initiative, please contact Elizabeth Collins – email - help@ajxabia.org in the first instance with your name and telephone number and a rough idea of what you think you could offer and she will arrange for a meeting between Volunteers, Juan Luis Cardona, CREAMA and Oscar Anton to discuss how this might be managed.
